Blogs are informal articles written for the purpose of showing your thought leadership and expertise on a topic. Blogging provides a myriad of benefits not only to your website, but to your business overall.
Here are five quick tips to help you get started on the path to blogging.
1. Don’t underestimate the power of blogging
It can’t be emphasized enough: blogging is incredibly important for your website and, ultimately, your business. The ultimate goal behind a blog is to drive traffic to your site; to have a low bounce rate and a longer than average visit time per visitor. Both these metrics will help to improve your search engine ranking as well.
2. Maintain a regular cadence
Consistency is the key to success. Whether you’re blogging once a week, once a month or once every day, maintaining a regular cadence is quite impactful. Search engines such as Google love new content for a myriad of reasons. In addition to improved search engine ranking and the long-tail keywords new content produces, consistent updates also means your website will be crawled by the search engine on a regular basis to check for updates.
3. Okay, great, but what do I write?
The default advice is always going to be “write what you know,” and this is no exception. Write about your customers—challenges you’ve helped them overcome (case studies make great content), industries you’ve seen success in; solutions you’ve implemented. When in doubt, we encourage you to use any and all of TBI’s content on your own blog – it’s an easy way to share relevant content on a consistent basis.
4. A few quick tips on how to write a blog
Know your audience! Your customers/prospects are your readers, so your writing should be geared toward them and what they want to read. Ask yourself what is the unique angle of this post and how will it help my audience? Never underestimate the power of a good title; don’t be tempted to be too witty or punny – clear, concise and self-explanatory titles usually get the most clicks. Use short paragraphs, articulate a clear opinion/angle, and cite outside data to support these opinions and angles.
5. So, I wrote a blog. . . now what?
Distribution is a key factor to driving traffic to your blog. One of the best ways to do this is to promote all of your blog posts on social media. Share the links, use relevant hashtags, and do so consistently. Another way to promote your blog is to send it out to your contacts – again, using a regular cadence, be it monthly or weekly.
