TBI Rehires Three More Employees: Why I Came Back to TBI

TBI, named one of Chicago’s best places to work by Crain’s Chicago Business in 2018, is not only a great company to work for; it’s a great company to come back to.

In the past year, seven different employees who had previously left TBI to pursue other opportunities have made the decision to return, not just for the career opportunities, but for the environment and people as well. We previously highlighted four of these individuals and are now highlighting three more to give you some insight into what prompted them to come back to TBI.

Amanda Sanchez, Senior Proposal Specialist

Why did you choose to work with TBI originally?

I originally decided to work for TBI back in 2013 because I wanted more opportunities to grow, and I knew the industry I was in previously would never be able to provide them. Would I always be learning new things? Sure, but overall every day would be so routine with a few new challenges here and there. I needed something more challenging, outside of my norm.

Why did you leave?

I was offered an opportunity that I thought I couldn't pass up— it was 4 minutes from home. I thought maybe a smaller company would be a better fit for me, but after time away, I realized I really missed my TBI family too much.

Why did you choose to come back, and what is your role now?

Sometimes you have to step outside of your box to find out for yourself that things are not always greener on the other side. The structure, culture, opportunity and benefits that TBI provides speaks volumes.

As Senior Proposal Specialist, I assist TBI channel managers in finding the best telco quotes for their partners and customers. Amanda Sanchez

What have you learned?

I've learned a lot! I came from the cable world where I lived and breathed all things cable from start to finish. Now I am working in telco which is a completely different animal; I feel like every day I'm learning something new.

What do you love about working at TBI?

The thing I love most about working at TBI is how even though I was gone for a little over a year and a half, I feel like I never really left. Through the past 6 years I have watched TBI grow into what it is today, which is pretty awesome.

Is anything different since you've come back?

Oh my gosh; a lot! For starters, we are in the 3rd new office since I was originally hired. There are a lot of new faces, and the overall structure of how things flow and from whom and when are all different. The culture is a huge change, too. Kudos to Team TBI! And let’s be real, the option to work from home occasionally is HUGE. It definitely makes work-life balance a whole lot easier!

Monique Carson, Account Manager — Verizon Mass Market

Why did you choose to work with TBI originally?

I originally had an interest in TBI due to the benefits and the opportunity to grow within the company. Also, as a recent college graduate, I figured this was the best place to start my career.

Why did you leave?

I left due to an opportunity closer to home.

Why did you choose to come back, and what is your role now?

I had the opportunity to see what another workplace was like, and it was no match to TBI’s culture and benefits.

What have you learned?

As a young person straight out of college, TBI has had a big impact on my professional growth.

What do you love about working at TBI?

TBI has a culture like no other; the atmosphere makes going to work every day enjoyable.

Is anything different since you've come back?

The new building! It has made coming back to TBI feel like a completely new start.

Stephani Fitzsimmons, Senior Marketing Manager

Why did you choose to work with TBI originally?

I joined TBI because I was interested in moving into the tech space and was impressed by their strong marketing initiatives. After coming onboard, it was clear that the marketing team was an unstoppable machine. Everyone works so well together and is determined to succeed.

Why did you leave?

I left to pursue an opportunity to oversee a marketing department. I learned a lot during my time away that helped to advance my skills and become a more well-rounded marketer. Now I can apply what I learned back into TBI.

Why did you choose to come back, and what is your role now?

I stayed connected with the TBI team and continued to follow the company’s growth. I knew when the right opportunity presented itself, I would be back. When the Senior Marketing Manager position became available, it was the perfect fit.

As Senior Marketing Manager, I have a strong focus on end-user marketing. I support Omni Center, CSE and the Referral Program. I am also helping to propel our newest IT resource,Tech Guidance, a vendor agnostic site helping IT decision markers select the best technology for their business.

Stephani_Fitzsimmons_SQWhat have you learned?

I’ve learned a great deal about the telecom space since joining TBI. Working alongside people that are extremely experienced and passionate about the industry has given me access to many invaluable resources. Plus, TBI has a stellar training team always available to help.

What do you love about working at TBI?

Being surrounded by smart, nice, motivated people makes work enjoyable! I know I have a strong support team here at TBI. Everyone is beyond welcoming and more than happy to help whenever needed. And across departments.

Is anything different since you've come back?

TBI has seen tremendous growth over the past few years. Not only have they gained more recognition and increased in company size, but they have also developed new teams and fresh programs to offer more support and sales opportunities. The marketing department itself has grown significantly to become an even greater resource.
